Presiden Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara, baru-baru ini mengumumkan pembubaran parlemen dan menyerukan pemilihan umum segera. Kemenangannya dalam pemilihan hari Sabtu atas mantan Presiden Ranil Wickremesinghe dan pemimpin oposisi Sajith Premadasa terjadi saat rakyat Sri Lanka menolak pengawal politik lama yang mereka salahkan karena mendorong negara itu ke dalam krisis ekonomi terburuk dibanding kapan pun sebelumnya.
